Jain Caves (Caves 30-34)

The Jain group marks the final phase of Ellora's rock-cut excavations.

Located at the northern end of the complex, Caves 30 to 34 represent the last additions to Ellora. These monuments feature highly detailed stone carvings and a strong focus on spiritual serenity.

Because they sit at the far end of the 2-kilometer site, they require extra walking. Bring a reusable water bottle, or bring small cash to use the electric shuttle cart to reach them.

Cave 32 (Indra Sabha)

30 minsCeiling paintings

This is a two-story cave known for its central monolithic shrine. It features detailed stone carvings of lotus flowers and Jain Tirthankaras. Look up at the ceiling to spot remnants of ancient paintings that once covered the rock. Plan to spend about half an hour exploring the upper level.

Cave 30 (Chhota Kailash)

15 minsUnfinished structure

Cave 30 is an unfinished excavation built to mimic the massive Kailasa Temple. It sits on a much smaller scale but uses the same top-down monolithic carving technique. Compare its layout to Cave 16 to see how artisans adapted their methods.
